Rivendell Evening

What is a Rivendell evening?

Rivendell is the name of a wonderful place from LORD OF THE RINGS described below:

Rivendell... The Last Homely House east of the Sea... A perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or storytelling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring)

A Rivendell evening is an attempt to create a space like the one Tolkien described where anyone, churched or unchurched, believer or non-believer, anyone, can come and talk about faith-related issues in a safe, non-judgmental, confidential environment.  You can invite your friends.

The evening begins at 5:30 with evening prayer, continues with a pitch-in dinner, and concludes with an open discussion on any issues related to faith, or lack thereof, that may be brought up among those present.

What the evening is NOT:  It is not just a social gathering, but a time for spiritual exploration.  It is not a recruitment tool for the Rivendell Community.  It is not a time to air political views concerning the nation or the church.  Criticism and negative comments of any sort are not allowed.  It is not a substitute for coming to scheduled events at Holy Trinity.
