Rivendell Evening

What is a Rivendell evening?

Rivendell is the name of a wonderful place from LORD OF THE RINGS described below:

Rivendell... The Last Homely House east of the Sea... A perfect house, whether you like food or sleep or storytelling or singing, or just sitting and thinking best, or a pleasant mixture of them all. Merely to be there was a cure for weariness, fear, and sadness. (J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring)

A Rivendell evening is an attempt to create a space like the one Tolkien described where anyone, churched or unchurched, believer or non-believer, anyone, can come and talk about faith-related issues in a safe, non-judgmental, confidential environment.  You can invite your friends.

The evening begins at 5:30 with evening prayer, continues with a pitch-in dinner, and concludes with an open discussion on any issues related to faith, or lack thereof, that may be brought up among those present.

What the evening is NOT:  It is not just a social gathering, but a time for spiritual exploration.  It is not a recruitment tool for the Rivendell Community.  It is not a time to air political views concerning the nation or the church.  Criticism and negative comments of any sort are not allowed.

Please contact the church office for the next scheduled date.
